Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac is a book which explains a new theory in this ancient field of study. It was prompted by the fact that Western Astrology has outlived its lifetime and its elements have been rendered obsolete by its cousin, the science of astronomy. The precession of the equinoxes, that is, the movement of the point of intersection of the celestial equator by the ecliptic by 50.2” (seconds of a degree) each year, prompts corresponding discrepancies in the predictions of astrology, which move farther and farther away from reality with each passing year. Since 100 A.D. when Claudius Ptolemy wrote his “Tetrabiblos”, the zodiac constellations have moved approximately 29.2° degrees across the sky, enough to ensure that the predictions of Western Astrology are completely misguided. The Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac takes into account all available modern scientific information regarding the actual positions of the 13 Zodiac constellations and offers astrology a way out. The only reasonable path now available to it is the acceptance of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac and the new theory. On the basis of it, the Moon and the Sun are given their rightful place. In 13 Zodiac Sign Astrology the Ascendant is represented by the position of the Moon, the celestial body which truly affects our lives, and not by some distant constellation. Lastly, sunspots, which have a well documented impact on the Earth and its people, take on an important role in the New Astrology. Only the Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac is firmly grounded in the sciences, and particularly in astronomy. It recognizes the influence that the planets have over our lives through their interactions with the Sun and the disturbances they cause in its magnetic field, and the effect of this on the magnetic field of our own Earth.

I have been studying Tropical astrology for almost 50 years, and though I have never charged money to do a reading I consider myself quite adept at the subject. However, I have always been troubled by the loose and romantically esoteric nature of the explanations and rules and procedures for interpreting Tropical charts, which are not based upon the 13 constellations on the ecliptic, which seems to me to be fundamental to The Truth.

Mr Kanatas has written a splendid book on the subject of the thirteen constellations and the absolute validity of the 'new' sign Ophiucus. Old style Sagittarians, being as weird and zany as they are (haha), should enjoy calling themselves (now) Ophiuchusians.

At last I have found a book that has given me enlightenment and cleared my conscience of all doubt as to the efficacy of astrology and is taking it out of the realm of carnival side show fortune telling and newspaper funny page entertainment into the new upcoming (in 600 years) Age of Aquarius when the fog of superstition and religious hierarchy will hopefully have evaporated from the consciousness of our (currently) insane society.

Science is nothing if not the study and dissection of phenomenon that challenges our minds to expand beyond the obvious and mundane things we react to automatically without thinking. You could stretch the point, and peeve many scientists and proffer the suggestion that science is the study and of the mechanics of 'magic'. Tropical astrology has become, as Mr Kanatas correctly states, a religion. I add to that the self-appointed nature of so many old-time astrologers who are reacting like grand inquisitors in the face of this perceived attack on their 'religion'. This is really a tempest in a teapot because the fundamentals of astrology, between Tropical and Astronomically based charts, are exactly the same. The signs are more cosmetic than anything else, steeped in an aura of romance and eld. That's all fine but it is the aspects between the sun, moon and planets that count and those do not change one jot in the 13 sign system, but the signs/constellations are not of equal size, therein lies the big bugbear I think. It is no longer easy to simply look at a 12 house chart, each sign containing 30 degrees and pick out the aspects. Also, there are no more feminine and masculine assignments for the sun, moon and planets. Neither are there the old elements, fire, earth, air and water. All have gone out the window. I say 'Good!'. Those things always seemed arbitrary to me. The ascendant sign is still relevant but does not have any bearing on the personality or physical traits of the individual. The moon is now considered the 'rising' sign in terms of impact on the personality.

This all takes some adjusting, I know! And the shift of Pisces into the role of the former Aries as leader of the pack is quite a jolt (I WAS an Aries, but I am still me!)

Reading this book has made me consider the possibility of joining the precise astronomical facts of the constellations, planets and, most especially the sun and the moon (our NEW ASCENDANT), without tossing out the art of interpretation from intuition and inner wisdom.

Currently you go to a Western astrologer and you get an hour of long-memorized lines about the meanings of the lights in the signs and houses in relationship to one another and the current movement in the cosmos at this time. That is called reading the transits.

Astrology is the scientific art of managing your life, anticipating possible events and being ready for them, even if they don't happen, but something usually does. I am all for people learning their charts and if this tool is based upon astronomical facts all the better. Trusting in an 'expert' with crystals scattered around the room and Enya cooing out of the boombox is no longer viable for me. I take care of myself and Mr Kanatas' book has reconfirmed my trust in Astrology in its ever-evolving condition.

This revelatory book explains in clear and easily understandable terms (I am no scientist!) the correctness of using the 13 signs on the ecliptic as a basis for understanding oneself through your natal blueprint. There is also a fascinating chapter on the effects of sunspots on the unborn foetus.

If you are interested in astrology and have been bothered by all the lose and unexplained ends in Western and Hindu astrology then this book is a must read.

Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac Ophiuchus The New Sign of the Zodiac Circle Vasilis Kanatas 9789549272512 Books Reviews

I think the book is very informative and is put together well. I do think the author could've done a better job at explaining certain aspects of the 13 Zodiac Astrology. For the most part, I loved it.
good book
Excellent reading.
In depth and to the point.
Cleared up a lot about myself.
Decent book on a little-explored subject.
My son is currently reading this book. He said it is quite informational in regards to sidereal astrology.
As a daily reader of my horoscope I've found that astrologer's predictions all fall totally short of reality. Astrology of the 13 Signs confirms why that happens because most astrologers are using the wrong zodiac sign, the wrong planets and the wrong ascendants. The author, Vasilis Kanatas, has his feet planted firmly in the science of astronomy, as well in astrology. He explains in layman's terms how the earth has shifted over the years not only throwing off the zodiac constellations as we know them, but adding a thirteenth one as well, Ophiuchus. The book explains how to find your new Zodiac sign, ascendant and sunspots for a way more accurate horoscope; the traits of the new 13th sign and a really compelling look into the relationship between astronomy and astrology. The book lays the groundwork for understanding your new sign and also offers up the author's website [(...)] to continue to accurately follow your daily/weekly tracking. Astrology of the 13 Signs is a great read for teens to adults - not loaded with scientific jargon, but a fascinating look at the influence planets really do have over our lives!
Finally some good proof to help back up what Astrologers have sought for thousands of years, still more to it I feel and finishing the wheel completely by the one constellation the Sun passes through that is not named or part of the zodiac signs even though the Sun passes through it. Now when they talk about the Suns activity and Sun spots affecting health in a way of energy levels and calm or quick to anger is really intriguing. For my birth chart and amount of Sun spots that day says I am hyperactive, wow that is spot on, I would get so hyper as a kid sometimes that people have slapped me to make me pay attention or to make me go away. I have since learned how to control it and use it towards tasks to complete drain of energy. Want to blow your mind in the magical science of being then get started on reading and go to their web site to learn your true birth chart including Chiron asteroid but removing Pluto but they still tell you were it was, my opinion is it is part of our solar system so in part it still affects all of us like everything else in some way or another.
